Creating the Land of Snow

The Land of Snow

We recently designed and produced a magical affair with The Lanesborough in which a classical ballet was brought to life. The Land of Snow welcomed families to an afternoon tea filled with theatrics and festive flourishes throughout. Discover how we transformed the notorious Belgravia room into an enchanted forest setting.

The Inspiration

Wanting to incorporate the Christmas classic, The Nutcracker, we began our research into how we could do so with a twist. We began breaking down the dances and creating mood boards on various sections of the ballet. With so many avenues, we were filled with creativity. From the Waltz of the Flowers and a room covered in florals, to the Sugar Plum fairy, utilising sweets, balloons and props, our journey led us to The Waltz of the Snowflakes. We loved the twilight mood of this scene and the atmospheric woodland setting helped us to create ‘The Land of Snow’.

The execution

We were able to bring our vision to life with the help of many fantastic suppliers going above and beyond. The Lanesborough Belgravia room offers stand-alone regal beauty, offering the perfect space for this event to take place. The pinks and blues worked with the colour theme and the shape of the room helped too curate along and intimate forest in which guests could be fully immersed. The production companies created a bespoke floor that looked like a winding snow-coated path throughout, not only adding to the visuals but also creating a dynamic dance floor for entertainers to travel up. Finally, the true magic was delivered by the florals, with snow-dusted trees, logs and never-ending Gypsophila, an icy backdrop was brought to life.

The details continued the narrative throughout the afternoon with embroidered velvet bows at each setting, offering that delicate finishing touch. Stunning collateral inspired by the ballet showcased the bespoke afternoon tea treats and created a truly Instagramable moment for guests arriving at their seats, eagerly awaiting the show.

The performance

Guests were able to enjoy their tea while listening to a live string quartet, performing festive songs and setting the tone for a delightful afternoon. The Snow Queen and Jack Frost then began narrating the story and families were transported into a magical land in which ballet dancers gracefully entered and performed the key dances from the Nutcracker. With these various immersive touch points, both adults and children alike were completely mesmerised by their surroundings and able to enjoy such a special moment as a family.

As a creative agency, taking an idea and transforming it into a reality is what we strive to do, using our inspiration to mould a truly unique experience. We feel incredibly lucky to have been able to design this event and we want to say thank you to all suppliers who supported this and everyone who attended.
