With so much of the Moriarty experience inspired by our admiration of natural beauty, protecting that beauty is an essential part of our process. Continuing to exude the highest quality whilst remaining sustainable is vital for the preservation of our industry. With boundless creativity and a fresh appreciation of environmental values, the luxury industry is experiencing a shift in mindset and we are well and truly behind it…
At Moriarty, we are intentional about the design and production of every element of the event, focusing on each detail and how it contributes to the overall look and feel. Tablescapes are the perfect place to start when creating a more environmentally conscious event, with many traditional factors being ‘single use’. Discover how we create the most stunning settings while remaining sustainability responsible…
Florals
When designing the look and feel of your event, florals are the best place to start. They can establish the colour pallet and mood and set the foundations for the rest of the appearance. Using seasonal blooms is a great way to ignite your creative journey with sustainable intentions. It not only reduces the carbon footprint produced through transporting the blooms but allows local suppliers to be used, supporting smaller and independently run businesses.
To add to this, using potted flowers over cut stems reduces the use of single-use products and allows the plants to continue to grow post-events. We absolutely love the look of the potted arrangements and think they complement natural, rustic and minimalistic designs. They also offer the perfect takeaway items for guests, offering a beautiful memento that can be cared for time and time again.
Collateral
Menus, invites and name cards are known to be single-use and traditionally just accepted due to the lack of alternative options. However, as the industry continues to evolve and become more aware of its environmental impact, exciting products are now starting to emerge. Our personal favourite is seeded card, as it still has the texture and deluxe look of high-quality paper but comes with are usable purpose. This card can still have beautiful prints and ink calligraphy placed on it, but from guests' collateral, beautiful wildflowers will bloom. This not only allows an eco-friendly option but provides a visually pleasing reminder of the event in the months and years to come.
Candles
No tablescape is complete without the atmospheric glow of a candle, so why not choose a less harmful option that will provide the same impact? Opt for candles that are made from natural and non-toxic materials to keep your tablescape as sustainable as possible. For example, soy candles are made from a renewable resource that is biodegradable and burns cleaner than traditional paraffin wax, they also burn slower offering better value for money. An additional alternative is products made from Beeswax or Coconut wax as these also use naturally occurring oils that are better for the environment and personal health as they do not emit harmful chemicals when burning.
Gifts
When creating a Moriarty tablescape, the details are just as important as the overall look and feel of the space. Each guest experience should be bespoke to them and offer moments of pure joy and- personalised gifts provide the perfect opportunity to do this. We love to place small items at each place setting, allowing guests to take home a carefully curated gift reflecting the event. These items are a great way to support local and small businesses, as the time taken to create each gift adds to the value felt by the guests. We recently used a London-based artist to make and hand-painted ceramic pots, creating 60 unique designs and showcasing her talent to each guest. These pots matched the tablescape flawlessly and added a pop of personalisation for each attendee.
A Sustainable Future
Overall swapping just one or two elements of your table design can create a look just as beautiful and have a large impact on the planet. On average weddings alone produce 181kg of general waste due to the extensive use of single-use materials - a number that is difficult to comprehend! We love working in a more conscious manner and look forward to continuing to do so with all our events moving forward.
