From coast to countryside; Moriarty’s take on outdoor weddings

As we celebrate all those recently engaged over the Christmas and New Year period and approach the 2023 wedding season, it’s the perfect time to revisit something we saw a lot of at Moriarty over the last year, bringing weddings outside! Whether it be the ceremony or the evening celebration, incorporating the outdoors for your big day is the perfect way to make the most of your venue and enhance the wedding experience.

The seafront ceremony

When deciding where to say your vows, don’t disregard the outdoor space available. If you are getting married abroad, a seafront ceremony is the perfect location to say ‘I do’. The soothing sounds of the ocean and the sea breeze create a sensory haven and the perfect setting for a ceremony that will be hard to beat. Not to mention, how amazing the backdrop will look in the photos!

We created the most romantic setting for the wonderful Binky Felstead and Max Darnton to tie the knot. An understated cove located on the Corfu coast was chosen for its spectacular views as well as the ability to easily dress the space, creating a stunning hideaway spot for the couple and their closest friends and family. Clusters of white and blush florals enhanced the natural elements that surrounded them and lined the aisle to the show stopping flower arch, under which the couple held their ceremony.

We love to create colour palettes that connect with the surroundings, like the organic tones and textures paired with neutral florals for the Corfu wedding, as well as the bright and wild blooms that complemented the panoramic views of the Deià hills. They differ with every wedding or event we do!

An English countryside wedding

Love the idea of an outdoor ceremony but can’t rely on the weather? Adding a structure to your garden wedding can be the perfect solution. Set in the beautiful Hertfordshire countryside, Moriarty’s very own Producer, Chloe, created an undeniably stunning setting for her wedding.

A beautiful marquee was installed in the family garden, which enhanced the natural, earthy tones of the space while offering shelter from the unpredictable weather. A foliage arch with pops of pastel colour was installed, signifying where the ceremony would be taking place. The open structure combined with organic features created a welcoming setting, perfect for an intimate wedding.

Held in the family home and with florals designed to be an extension of the wild countryside grounds, this wedding was the definition of a relaxed, personal and authentic weekend for Chloe’s friends & family.

Bringing the outside in

Capturing the beauty of the elements inside a marquee or venue has been one of our favourite wedding trends and we can only expect to see it becoming more popular throughout this year. Carefully curated floral design and production can transform a space, creating breathtaking surroundings.

We designed and produced a wedding in the Bath countryside that captured both the chic and quintessentially English wedding aesthetics. The grounds of Belcombe Court were completely elevated, starting with the chapel, where gypsophila clouds were installed, along with smaller arrangements, framing the isle and creating the perfect look for an elegant summer ceremony. A clear-span marquee was then installed in the garden, providing a space to dine and dance into the evening, complete with a foliage ceiling where hanging white wisteria was fixed, camouflaging the structure and re-creating a space similar to an orangery. The transparent marquee sides gave guests a panoramic view of the acres of stunning land surrounding them as if they were dining outside, bringing all the outdoor features in.

To summarise the trends of the season…

Regardless of your wedding location, embracing the surroundings is a perfect and unique way to enhance a theme or venue. Whether you are looking to have a more rustic event or a floral extravaganza, making the most of the natural elements can elevate a design well beyond productional possibilities. It’s the season to take weddings out into the open!
